Applied Kinesiology

Applied Kinesiology (AK) is a diagnosis system that includes the structural, emotional and chemical body functions with the use of a muscle function test. The aim is to investigate the reasons for the body`s malfunction and to create balance and well-being with the help of regulated measures.

In the sense of a bio-logical medicine, with Applied Kinesiology it is possible to discover disorders very early i.e. before the pathology appearance, to eliminate or minimize them or to improve the quality of life if the illness is therapy resistant

Applied Kinesiology goes back to the American chiropractitioner George Goodheart who discovered in the mid 60`s that negative and positive stimulations – whether being chemical, structural or emotional create a change of muscle strength. With the help of muscle function tests it is possible to give a diagnosis about the negative factors (allergens, indigestible substances, malpositions etc.) as well as positive effects and to take an appropriate therapeutic measure.

Applied Kinesiology is not at all a substitute for reliable medical school diagnosis procedures but a complementary diagnosis method with the advantage of being able to show and understand functional connections in the organism as an holistic approach for patients as well as therapists. Applied Kinesiology is especially suitable for problems in connection with the musculoskeletal system.

Triad of Health

The Triad of Health is the base for approaching health questions. Each side of the equilateral triangle corresponds to the structural (musculoskeletal system related), chemical (metabolism related) and the emotional factors in the organism of a human being that are functioning together in harmony or malfunctioning when losing their balance.

A disorder on one of the Triad of Health sides can create an organism irritation with symptoms that may effect one of the other sides. This is how therapy resistant pains in the musculoskeletal system for instance can be the reason for a metabolic disorder. The concept of Triad of Health gives an important explanation that pain can be caused by a superior phenomenon and that disorders within the system depend on one another and can strengthen each other.

The Applied Kinesiology offers a diagnostic instrument with which connections between structural, chemical and emotional factors in the organism can be diagnosed and a renovation under holistic points of views in the sense of Triad of Health can be realized.

The muscle test

The muscle test explains how the patient reacts to

• negative influences or stress

or

• positive and healing measures

Muscle functional test

The basis of all measures in the area of Applied Kinesiology is a well done muscle function test.

The muscle function test can be done on many different muscles and enables, especially in pain therapy, an individual diagnosis and therapy access. The patient is pressing as hard as possible against the therapist`s resistance. The therapist applies counter pressure and increases it for a minimum period of 1.5 – 2.5 seconds.

The muscle test takes from two to a maximum of three seconds. Three results are possible:

1. muscle is weak: The patient cannot relax the test muscle enough.

2. Muscle is normotone: The muscle can resist the increasing pressure of the tester`s resistance.

3. Muscle is hypertone: The muscle can resist the increasing pressure of the tester`s resistance and keeps strong at weaker measures.

Normotonus means that the body is able to realize negative and positive stimulations and reacts accordingly.

Hypertonus indicates that the muscular system and with it the organism are exposed to enormous and permanent stress. The body is trying with all its power to offer resistance which results in excessive strain.

Weakness means that due to a too long lasting stress factor a stage of exhaustion is reached. Selye defines stress as follows:

Stress is the sum of all adaptation and reaction processes of a physical as well as a psychological nature with which a living being reacts towards his/her environment and the in and outgoing demands.

That is why we need to distinguish between the positive and essential Eustress and the negative distress influencing our balance and health.

The aim of Applied Kinesiology

is to diagnose a maximum amount of factors leading to distress.

In Applied Kinesiology there are two methods of diagnosis procedures:

• Therapy localization (TL)
• Challenge

Therapy localization
The patient touches a specific area of his/her body, if the muscle strength changes, then we are talking about therapy localization.
Challenge
The patient is exposed to a test stimulation (e.g. placing food on the tongue), if the muscle strength changes, then we are talking about positive challenge.

The following reactions may appear within:

• Normotone or hypertone muscle weakened by challenge.
• Weak or normotone muscle converts into hypertone by challenge.
• Weak, normotone or hypertone muscle remains unchanged although challenge has been applied.
• Weak muscle can be strengthened via challenge.
• Hypertone muscle can become normotone via challenge.

AK-Tests in cases of allergies

The diagnosis procedure of Applied Kinesiology is especially successful in cases of testing of indigestibility and allergies. If, through the contact (mostly via the mucous) of a certain substance a normotone muscle becomes hypertone or a strong muscle becomes weak, Applied Kinesiology assumes that the body reacts with indigestibility.

By avoiding the specific substance the phenomena caused by indigestibility or allergy are improving or reducing in most cases. In this context the orthomolecular therapy gives a useful and supplementary explanation.
